    K Serial Orville origins

It certainly is hard to debunk something once it gets accepted as truth on the internet. There are few definitive statements of fact about ObG guitars. The Bacon & Day Les Paul Book (from the early 90's) says that they (ObG and O) were made in Japan; with ObG being the higher end models...

    Gibson Japan No More?

The Gibson announcement is Official Gibson Guitar Statement On Yamano Music 01/26/2007 Gibson Guitar, the world?s premiere musical instrument manufacturer, has announced that Yamano Music is no longer the authorized distributor for the Gibson family of brands in Japan. The decision was...

    K Serial Orville origins

Thanks for all of your research on the K Orvilles. Except for the uncertainty about the manufacturers, I gotta believe it. For the simple reason that we don't see 1989 through 1992 inked serial number Orvilles (except for those few expensive SG basses probably FGG made). The plausible...

    18 watt Marshall clones?

The Quest to Find the Perfect Amp!! Wow, good luck. No amp can do all .... but in the category of small practice or bedroom amp, the winner is the old Marshall "Lead 12" (Model 5005) from the 80's. It's a simple one channel plug in your guitar and roar type of amp. Check out the comments on...

    K Serial Orville origins

Interesting theory, I'm still trying to absorb it. K = Kanda Shokai makes sense. However, the theory would imply that Ishibashi never sold any new higher end Orville by Gibson models. Was that true? I can believe that two different factories produced the ObGs and stickered Orvilles, maybe...

New Epiphone Japan LQ (limited models) added...

I'm curious about who currently makes this Epi Japan Limited line. Does anyone know? It used to be Fuji Gen Gakki, but in another post, javelin70 tells us that "Fuji Gen have stopped producing guitars in Japan." If that's true, and javelin70 certainly seems to think so, then it can't be Fuji...

    Orville K serial date confirmation

Good bit of detective work. It goes along with some info I found (a long time ago) that stickers were used early on, but there's so much incorrect info regarding when Orville by Gibsons were made and what the serial numbers mean, it's hard to know what's true. Actually, this email of yours...

    Orville K Serial Date Info

On earlier uses of the "Orville" name, a well-known music-biz person and guitar collector told me this: "Orville began as a very cheap and low quality line of guitars in the 70's equal to or below the Japanese Epiphones of that era. Gibson showed some balls to bring that name back for the later...

Orville by Gibson no serial number?

Nice find. You never know about a "one-off" like that. It could have been a mistake at the factory (they forgot to stamp it), we'll never know. Unfortunately, one guitar does not make a pattern. I've seen a couple early 90's "Orville by Gibson" guitars that didn't have the letter "G" and one...

    Orville by Gibson Serial numbers

The Letter in the serial numbers of Orville by Gibsons and Orvilles may indicate the factory, but it's certainly not in the way it was used on other Asian guitars. Clearly, G J A & K are NOT the first letter of the name of the factory; none of them are. I believe the factories marked the...

    Orville by Gibson Serial numbers

They did make all-mahogany bodied Les Paul Customs. The 1997 Orville LPC-85 is an example. The catalog description translates to "On the strong demand from the musicians, this 1957 re-issue model was reproduced with cream binding, all mahogany."

    Orville by Gibson Serial numbers

All the one's I've seen are inked on (not stamped into the wood).
