The original pots were short shaft metric, but I replaced them with pots from the US so I also had to replace the knobs.

My new 2020 Love Rock KLS170F LW/SN from Japan

I have the pickups out of my guitar but I can't tell with the covers on if they're potted or not. If I get a chance on the weekend I'll pull off one of the covers and see if they're potted.

I spend a lot of time on the middle position balancing the two volume pots so it's very important for me that they work well. I guess I was lucky with the protective film. It came off quite easily. I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that!

My new 2020 Love Rock KLS170F LW/SN from Japan

The neck angle thing is something that Kurosawa makes a point of on their website. The other KLS special features are hide glue, hand-fitted neck joint, special top carve (based on an original 60 Burst that Kurosawa owns), the "slim neck" (also based on the Kurosawa 60 Burst), select...

It can growl, but it can sing sweetly too. It's currently vying for the #1 spot with my LS196. The LS196 has a set of Monty's PAF's.

You mentioned the pickups being lowered below the rings, mine was like that too. I think it's because the shallower neck angle (3.8º instead of 4.5º) means that the bridge and pickups have to be lower to compensate.

It's been a few days, but I finally got the guitar 'finished'. I ended up replacing the bridge, thumbwheels, tailpiece and studs with Faber parts. I also replaced the pickups with Bare Knuckle Mules, put in VIPots and Vitamin-Q caps. The original pots with the pull-up switches were almost...

Nice! Love the color. Coincidentally, I just bought a KLS170F-LW/SN from Kurosawa.

Another update on my belated NGD. It seems that the guitar Kurosawa found to replace the one I ordered (that had already been sold), was still at the Tokai factory. So there was a delay while the guitar was sent to Kurosawa and then Kurosawa sent it to me. It finally arrived yesterday and easily...

Looking for inspiration - Goldstar upgrade/refurb

Personally, I'd get the neck repaired and refretted and leave the rest. It looks like a nice guitar just needing to be played.

    Tokai Lacquer finish

I'd almost say that's good news, but sorry to hear that your guitars were marked by a stand. My LS196 has been sitting on the nitro eater for some months now without a mark. I guess I should be happy about that.

Quick update. I got a call from Kurosawa last night. Turns out the guitar I ordered had already been sold. But the guy went through their stock and found one with the same specs and a tad lighter (the one I ordered was 4.15kgs, the one I'm getting is 4.03kgs). Hopefully it will be here today...

Actually, new guitar order day. I bought one of the guitars that Kurosawa Gakki had made, KLS-170F-LW. It has a few differences from the regular Tokai's, like a slightly different neck angle, period correct body carve, slightly repositioned bridge pickup, hide glue, hand carved neck (based on a...

    Tokai Lacquer finish

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize that 'lacquer' had such a broad meaning. I guess some study is in order.
