I am seeing this thread for the first time. Found it from the recent thread posted by Sig.
Amazing guitar. I can't help but wonder how much you paid for that beauty in 2017.
I also can't help but wonder how much Cliff offered you for it. lol
Do you still have it?
That is not Natural. It is also not a Cashew finish. Tokai only used Cashew on their very High end guitars. This is some type of stain.
Where it is written on, it doesn't appear to have just wiped the stain off or it wouldn't be bright yellow. It almost looks like it was painted on or they used...
The Lacquer used by Tokai. at least on the vintage LS and ES guitars I have and have seen, are obviously not the same as the lacquer used by Gibson. It's good that it will look as good as new forever but for me, I like the way old Gibsons and Fenders check.

It looks like it was an auction. So most likely you were outbid. Sounds like you thought you were buying it for the price listed which was just the price of the last bidder. And since you entered an amount that was already entered, it went to the first person that entered that amount. Or someone...
I always wondered why their backs look different than the Gibsons. I just figured it was in the cut. One thing I am pretty confident of, is that whatever kind of wood it is, the golden years, 78-81, they had a way of picking resonant pieces and it appears they like the ones that come in around...
It looks like a refin to me. On the Body it appears you can see where the paint bleads onto the binding and appears to higher then the binding. Like the biding was taped off for paint.
It is most definitely a different kind of cut. They use quarter sawn for a reason. For stability. Even quarter necks move with minor changes to temps and moisture. Can't imagine how much more this would. It is very odd though, to see that on a 81 60. They are usually all pretty consistent in...
Since Cites didn't start until 1992, Tokai could have easily used BR. It was however not easy to come by and would be expensive. Quantities of the stuff were limited in the 60's and everyone was trying to get it. So just being able to acquire some would be a challenge. So to me, that would mean...
The bridge pickup appears to be in the right place. It looks like the bridge was mounted further back. How well does it intonate up and down the board.
