Apparently the "Springy" started life in 1977. Has anyone actually seen a 77 or owned one?

No Springys and no Reborns I have seen with a 1977 serial number.
Maybe a prototype or Tokai started production at the end of that year, but stamped 800xxxx, just a guess.

Any EARLY 78 guitar could easily have begun to be built in 77.... who knows when they began production in 77 (if they actually did). If it was toward the end of the year, then it might be true - BUT, if they were completed in 78, that might be why there are none stamped with 77.

Here's the date stamp from my 78....(it reads from right to left because it appears they stamped the date on the neck butt and it transferred to the pocket) - hard to tell what the last three digits are. There's also a shadow of a second stamp below it (?). Unfortunately, I've got this one locked away in storage so I can't have another look right now....

hi?
i got one too ... a real early one 8000323 ,,, a st 50 ,,,,,
but still never seen a 1977 ,,,,,,,,,, they could be made in 1977 ,,, but the serial says 1978 ,,, and the made model with number on the neckplate too in 1978 ,,, first they have the narrow neck plate ,,,,, number stamp in the neckpocket ,,, then they have the normal neckplate with number on the neckplate ... in 1978 ...
i think the highest number i have seen is 8001710 with the narrow neck plate ....
and i have a 1978 with number on the neck plate 8000677

Found my neck stamp image. Narrow neck plate too... no serial number on it. Looks like the last three digits are 750.

But the ghost stamp below it in my neck pocket looks like a different number. Perhaps they tried another neck on it too?

My ST 60n is about 250 earlier than yours with the same pups. I always thought they were early Damarzios.

Hi guys,

I've seen 2 x 1977 Springys...
1) 7000105 - ST-60 OW
2) 7000165 - ST-42 GS

and 1 x LP Model ( just before LP Reborn)
3) 7000011 LS-80 CS

then again, 3 guitars in over 30 years of Tokai - that's rare.

The highest number I have seen with the small neckplate is 8001885 and I believe the change was made around 80002001
