hi all,
i suddenly had this idea of building/assembling my own telealike (from using this website ), i have read of people doing this and wondered whether any of you guys could chime in and give me some advice? is it something anyone could do with a little effort? have any of you guys built your own guitars?
(i would buy the body and neck and then stick all the bits in, not actually craft the body as i have no idea how to do that!)
what would i need to bear in mind? i chose a tele as its probably the simplest of guitars and theres less to go wrong.... do you need any special tools? where do you get the bits from? im in the uk and i know of axesrus.com.

any help appreciated,
charlie

Hi Charlie, welcome to the Forum :-? .

Strange website ? amusing colour selector, but why do you want to use their stuff? I don?t see any obvious pricing for parts etc? I?d forget that place.

OK, it?s easy to build a Tele ... just buy the best parts from the best people (mostly in the USA). All you need is a screwdriver & a soldering iron, plus sandpaper & paint if you buy unfinished body/neck.

Best Tele body from Brian Poe in Texas, http://www.hightechtool.com/guitar/ - great guy & makes beautiful dead accurate copy of 1955 Tele or 1950 Broadcaster (or try USACG bodies). Allparts make a good range of accurate Tele necks, available in UK http://www.allparts.uk.com/about.asp (otherwise try Warmouth in USA). Best paint colours from ReRanch in USA http://home.flash.net/~guitars/, can't import though. Maybe get OC Duff to wind a set of pups if you want classic tele twang http://www.ocduffpickups.com/ . For all other bits check eBay, lots of parts there. Check TDPRI Forum for masses of stuff on Building Teles http://www.tdpri.com/.

However, its cheaper and far easier to just buy a good used Tokai or MIM Classic 50 or 60 :-? .

Ian.
