Advice on a Fender Japan tele

Post by JohnA » Sat Apr 16, 2016 3:35 am

I'm looking at buying a 84 Fender Japan Paisley tele, looks great sounds great but has no serial nUmber either on the neck or bridge. Is this normal? Anything else I should check to ensure its authentic? The pickups have been changed BTW

Cheers

Ask the seller to remove the neck, should be markings in the neck pocket and/or back of neck.

I'm actually getting the guitar on trial for a week to decide if I want it, I'll take some pics. What markings am I looking for?

Model type abbreviation and/or model type number.

Sorry for all the questions, how would that help me date it?

No problem, glad to be of any assistance (?).

But I'm afraid I misunderstood your question somewhat, I thought you wanted to verify it was MIJ.

So, it's me that should say sorry!

should be a serial number on the bridge plate, also 84 they were still putting neck dates on the end of the neck.. without either of these its probably not 84 ..
