When I asked my friend as to why it's fallen into such a state, he mentioned that there supposedly used to be a Scottish Law which taxed buildings ONLY if they had roofs. Therefore, some owners might've removed the roofs, or simply allowed them to get destroyed over the years in order to avoid tax.

You can also see some 'walled in' windows as a result of the 'window tax'. This was common in quite a few countries.

Looted for building materials? Looks like a fair bit of stone has gone missing.

Very well could be. My innocent mind didn't even consider that people would steal stone :lol:
