Hi!
I have a 1980 Tokai Jazz Sound (Pre Lawsuit logo and headstock - L Serial No)

And I have no idea what the peg thing on the back of the headstock is for. It looks like a strap peg but that cant be right.
Anyone know what this is for?

Yep, it's a strap button. During the early 80's, Tokai was making their Jazz Sounds to be near-exact copies of '64 Fenders. As part of that, a lot of them have strap buttons on the headstock, rather than the horn, just like Leo Fender originally designed the Jazz Bass to. Weird getting used to it, but you don't have to worry about neck dive as much with the strap there, IMO.

Out of curiosity, does yours have a copper grounding strap leading from the rear pickup to the bridge, like the old Fenders? At least in my Tokai's, they didn't, but ran bell wire to the bridge, instead.
