LR - LP mapping

Post by guitarboy » Fri Oct 04, 2002 5:33 am

Ned,

apmechling's post raised a good point.

I've just had a look at the LR to LP mapping - it's not right.

Les Paul changes go like this:

52 Version 1 Gold top - wrong neck angle, semi type bridge, P90's.
53-55 Version 2 Gold top - neck angle corrected, stud tailpiece, P90's.
55-56 Version 3 Gold top - Tune-O-matic phased in, P90's
57 Version 4 Gold top - First Humbuckers on a standard.
58 - 59 The sunburst is born - full on LP but chunky neck.
60 Sunburst, slimmer neck, silver tops on vol/tone knobs.

As you can see the Love Rock's models LS 60 / LS 70 etc don't map to LP years.
However within a range you may have a LS60 - '59 or an LS 60 - '57 etc.

Looks like the info on the site could mislead people?

cheers
GB

My Love Rock LS-70 VF got a wide neck,so it fits better on 58-59 models.

I pulled that stuff right from the Tokai catalogs. I'll go back and double check.

Ned,

I think the thing to check is not the Tokai catalog but the Gibson LP history which is well documented.

You can't have humbuckers and a sunburst finish on a Les Paul and then call it a '56. As posted above the first time this combination appeared on a Gibson LP is '58.

No humbuckers appeared on any LP before '57 and the first 'burst was '58, surely for something to be a replica it would have to get these very basic details right?

So a '56 replica would have a gold top and p90's and a '57 replica would have a gold top and HB's etc...

If the mapping is in the catalog as you say then the author goofed up.

For the record I'm not trying to be an expert, I'm just repeating what is very well documented fact.
