spam /porn

Post by bunbury » Sat May 10, 2008 2:55 am

Is there some sort of spam filter that can monitor posts to the forum? I don't know anything much about running a forum, but my company server runs an e-mail filter that zaps everything except the occasional try-on from West Africa. It's very effective and it handles about a 1,500 e-mails a day.

We now have a post labeled 'sex-porn-lesbian' which should be easily filtered out ... shouldn't it :-?

I'm working on it but things are crazy busy and I need some time. If people stop posting replies to the spam it's easier for me to catch it and delete it.

All true, but this stuff is more than annoying. My 9 year old son has now come into contact with it and so has BruceBoomstick's 10 yr old (see elsewhere on site).

I find it offensive and it's piling in at an increasing rate every day. We're on a list that's circulating these people. (and I'd like the trainer ads blocked too!)

I know a bit about spam filters for e-mail - they work. I know nothing about spam filters for forums, but I'm sure it can be done and I'm sure someone reading this knows how. Please can we get it fixed?

As long as we are allowed to post pics on the forum then this sort of thing is bound to happen, it's a difficult problem to solve as, I'm sure you would agree, a forum like this without pics would not be any-where near as good.

Spam filters sort out e-mails by checking for bulk mail-lists, they identify titles and content that have words like xxx, porn etc in them. They look for known spams etc etc etc

As far as I know they can't/don't look at pictures and have opinions on them. A filter is looking for spam - you can still have pictures, even obscene pictures.

I don't know enough about how forums work ... but it must be possible apply a filter.

Our newest member (Proomyomimi) has an XXX rated video site.

There's no reason why pornograhers shouldn't play Tokai's, but either some recent Hard-Core Conference has formed Tokai discussion group, or we're being joined by Bots and the process is mostly automatic.

Check out the member list sorted for newly joined members .... Can anyone explain how it's done?

OK! grammatical error  I was suggesting you do it and take a look at the sort of new members we are getting. If you list them by joining date you'll get the idea.

You can get it to list newest members first at the top of page 1.
