The SG Greco's are not so common - do they even have model numbers? The serial tells me it must be from 89, and the logo suggests Mint Collection. It has a long tennon neck. The pups have no markings or anything, but I'm very curious what they are? And everything else can you tell me for that matter ;-)

The paint stippling on the rear of the headstock is quite bad...it's not evident on the body.
Has the headstock had repair work done at some stage?

Not that I know of ... but it's certainly a possibility - I'll take a closer look at it.

Took a closer look ... I think the photo is cheating - it doesn't really look that way.

I'd bet it is an '89 for sure. Mint Collection.. yes.
Dot inlays are a nice touch too. Late 80's Mint Collection seem mostly to have unlabeled pickups and no model number sticker on the back of headstock like 82-86 or so. All the Mint Collection's I've owned have been of very high build quality. I only remember the SS-60 as far as an SG model number goes but no way to be sure. Model # might be written in the bridge pickup cavity. Worth a check.

Thanks for the feedback fiftywatt! Yeah - it seems to be of very high build quality - fret endbindings and everything ;-) And playability is VERY good!

I'll check out bridge pickup cavity for a model number - thanks!

No model number in the bridge pickup cavity either.

Anybody know anything about the pups? Would I benefit from changing them?

Hi

I had a Greco SG some years ago that looked like yours (I belive it was from -89 too), black with dot inalys, Screaming PU. I was told from a japanese friend that it was a Kanako Nakayama signature model (as I understand a famous female guitarist in Japan, played with a band called Princess Princess). Model number SS65P2 (could be different model number depending on year).

Here is some catalog pictures:

I think you could find more pics on that model if you check some more links:

Johan - thanks a lot for your reply! It certainly looks like that model! Cool to have a chick signature axe ;-)

Thanks again man!

I found some pages - there's apparently also an SS-80P2 ... the bridge being the only difference it seems

gday Megl, from looking at those pics of your guitar i wouldn't be too surprised if it has been resprayed. The stippling that Ozeshin refers too looks like an average respray, {i paint for a living} also there seems to be no fret edge binding. Fret edge binding covers the ends of the frets and this is not visable in these shots. Mick

Then again the serial no is over the paint ..?? so maybe no respray , maybe touched up ?? . In the pics you can see where there is paint over the chips .

I think you're right about the touch up. Some chips has been painted

As I said earlier the 'stippling' looks MUCH worse on that photo than in reality, and funny thing is, it's only on the back of the head. Front and rest of the guitar looks nice.
