I'm very tempted by one of these:

I would appreciate views from anyone who has one of these, or has tried one and has an opinion. I'm particularly interested in the feel and size of the neck. I have a Korean LS48, if that helps with comparisons.

I do have a 1997 Gibson LP Special, which I might sell if I buy the Tokai, so if anyone can compare the Tokai with P90s with a Gibson LP Special, that would be even more helpful. Thanks

Correct 56 top carve, one piece back, neck is about a 60s profile, Seymour Duncan P90s, long neck tenon and wired by someone with OCD it's so neat. And of course a correct open book headstock

The Ebay seller mijsixstringkatana usually has one , I've had 4 guitars off him and he's very sympathetic with his labeling to us poor UK chaps.

Heres mine:

Along with it's stablemate

Thanks, looks nice. When you say the neck is a 60s profile, could you explain what you mean by that? I know a bit about Fenders, but not much about LPs, so I'm not sure if you mean fat or slim.

As that's an Edwards, not a Tokai, I guess there may be quite a few differences between them?

Les Paul 50s necks were pretty fat with a U shaped profile and pretty close to the around 0.9" from 1st fret down to the neck join, this slimmed out considerably with the 1960s, going from a slimmed down dimension at the first fret and tapering to a slightly less fat about 0.860" at the 14/15 fret, alos it went to more of the current "modern C" profile of todays Fenders

The hardware on maybe all MIJs is Gotoh, so good quality.

Edwards are directly cloned in bodyshape from 50s Gibsons, with a more complex top carve, all have one piece backs, and all have good weight around the 8lbs mark, not the back breaking 10-12lbs of some other copies and the originals

Not all have 1 piece backs. Look at this one:

And I don't know that the body shape is cloned from 50's Gibsons. Seems to me that the exaggerated top carving is much more pronounced on the Edwards.

Interesting, never seen a two piece Ed before, before but none of the newer models are two piece, but that listing also says it's a flame top
The carve on the Edwards is very very close to the 50s, I should know, it's so close to a 53 we had through a while back, it's uncanny.

Now, I do like that one. A gold top is a gold top is a gold top - this black one is an odd bird that you don't see many of. Pretty cool - black p'up covers though and no pick guard.

You'd rather have a black one than a Goldtop? God, I wouldn't!

I've got a Goldtop, got the hots for a black one now PAF or P90.

Rupert has a nice black Lester with PAF's in the classified section - check it out - http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9463
