Hi All,

Bought this the other day and i'm hoping some of you lovely folks would be able to identify it and ideally age it for me?

I've tried my best, and the headstock/logo is suggesting 84/85. the seller also seems to think this

However I've also been told it's an 82 Japanese TTE80 PR M, based on the headstock and serial number.

Now i'm struggling to find a paisley in the 82 brochures, and as far as i know 84/85 is the earliest you'll find them. I have also only managed to find TTE 70's in Paisley, so... I'm not fully on board with that assessment.

I am by no means an expert, and hope some of you may be able to help out dating this.

Thank you all in advance and sorry, i haven't a clue how to embed these photos. [edit: glorious technicolour images sorted thanks to Felixcactus]

Hi, and welcome.

As I understand it only 7 digit serial# gives an indication on production date, I believe 7 digit (7ender models) stopped in 1983?

Well, I have no idea how to read a tokai serial number, but I got in contact with Tokai Guitars UK [on facebook, this may be my first mistake] and asked them. They were able to give a full model and colour from just the serial number and headstock though... would that be right?

The headstock is definitely not an 82. Looking at the very helpful tokai registry headstock dating matrix i have settled for an 84 there. As the paisley was [to my knowledge ] first introduced 85, then it's probably an early run using up old stock.

Hi guys,

I'm going with a 1987 TTE-70 PR - at least.
There MAY be a matching code stamp under the front pickup.
At any rate, no TTE-80 was ever available in Paisley. Nunca.
"Tokai" logo indicates a build after 1983 whilst the Paisley finish was not offered until 1985 and the code stamp was altered in1986 to the one on the neck. Also the 1985 and 1986 TTE-70 PZ had 6 way bridge whereas your has the 3 way bridge used from 1987 to 1990
6 digit Serial number is for a Mid-60's replica so the fingerboard should be laminated Maple and not a 1-piece neck.
regards
Peter
