Hello, I am new to Tokai brand and I have been consulting on multiple forums and have been suggested to try here.

I am about the purchase a 2nd hand (5 year old owned) Tokai LS150F Lemon Drop AAA (I believe, correct me if I am wrong), Priced at 690$ US, I am highly concerned about it's authenticity (Not including the Tokai hard case), The owner mentioned he owns it for 5 years, He said he has no problem removing the neck pickup if needed, here are a few pictures, Help is appriciated

My guess is that it's a 2011 LS105 Q - the quilt top kind of gives it away. Priced appropriately.

Definitely not an LS150F

That's intersting, Youre the first one to bring it up, As I am not familliar with Tokai, I do not know their models, Upon a quick google search it appears you might be coorect as they look pretty **** close, Is there a way of identifying?

Also as a warning sign, The seller mentioned it does not include a Tokai hard case, which is supplied upon purchasing an LS150F (I think, Correct me here), Might be a red light

Basics.....

F in a model indicates a flame top
Q in a model indicates a quilt top

Serial number indicates that it is a 2011 issue. Quilt top for that year was the LS105Q - which can be found in catalogs. The quilt top is a veneer. It should have a 2 piece back and be finished in poly. Not sure if there is a model stamp in the neck pickup cavity. Price is good for a LS105Q too - he's not asking for LS150F money - just a bit confused about the model number. Or are YOU confused about the model number?

The LS150F is a much higher end guitar - nitro finish, solid AAA top, one piece back, CTS pots, orange drop caps. Here's the spec (and price) from a 2010 sold on Reverb:

As I have stated I have 0 experience with Tokai guitars, however he was able to track down the original payment receipt

Heres the model number written there, If it means anything

Simply, It says "LS148SEBVF-38 Love Rock, Violin (Transalted to English)"

Also he was wrong, The receipt dates back to the end of December 2016, If that helps identifying the model (He corrected himself), I don't know how to date back the serial, But are you sure it's an 2011 made? Seems unlikely considering it was bought at the end of 2016

That helps....

The SEB in the model indicates that it's one of the Sound Effect Body models - which is a pancake construction. Your photo of the side of the guitar shows that - sorry, I missed that.

Here's a forum link - scroll down and you'll see the LS148 SEB on the catalog page: http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=180162&sid=fe0aff7ffbefd55018c5b4f239121cf4

It's not an LS150F and yes the serial number indicates it's a 2011 as noted by the first two digits - 11

Ok I see, so after 2 days of research and forum digging I now know the model, except it doesn't tell me much, What can you tell me about it, and is it worth the 690$ US he asks for?

As I said above, the price is fine in my opinion for that SEB guitar. In fact, a quick Google search of previous SEB listings on eBay and Japan sites show that they often go for more.

I guess I'll just play it and decide, Thanks for all the help

That is always the best course of action - sometimes you can't and you have to base your purchase decision upon doing your homework first before you pull the trigger.

I have 3 SEB guitars from tokai. A strat, J Bass and a Tele. Actually I just ordered one more SEB one (a LG series a Prs type one) custom made gonna take 5 more months. The SEB makes a big difference. If you ordered from Tokai is around a $300 upgrade they can do this for any guitar they make. I would buy it for $690 USD. Do you know if it is poly or Nitro? Either way for $690 it is worth it. Just a bonus if it is nitro.

I have not heard anything positive or negative about SEB so far so your feedback is nice to hear.

The above video show a good demonstration of what SEB does. Adds more clarity to the guitar. IMO worth it.
