I'm picking up a new amp tomorrow (Marshall Studio 15) and I'd like to try a greenback in it. Someone locally is selling a 16 ohm greenback at a good price, but the original speaker in the amp is 8 ohm.

Any amp/speaker gurus out there? Is this ok to do or should I just get an 8 ohm speaker to match the amp? Will I lose out on some of the tone?

if the amp has an output for external speakers and is rated say 4<16ohm then you will get away with it. if not then you will lose out on 50% of the power and a few other nuances. read this forum for some accurate and not so accurate replies https://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthread.php?166602-16-Ohm-Speaker-in-a-8-Ohm-Amp
