Hi Guys.
I have just purchased a lovely candy apple red Tokai Goldstar strat, from the informations I have gathered it should be a 1984 model.
How can I know if it's a ST-50 or an ST-60 type ?

A lot of st 60's had 'E' pickups, but some had 'U's, all ST 50's have 'U' pups, so if it has 'E's it will definately be a 60, if it has 'U's it could be either a 50 or a 60.... that's the first thing to check. :D

Well, pickups have a U stamped on them.
From what I have read on another site, the ST-60 should have 8 screws for the pickguard (mine has 11), and a round string tree (mine is the standard one). So I likely have a ST-50. Still a great guitar.

Maybe a ST-70 in the end, as it has a 6 digit serial number ?

St 70s were fitted with E stamped pickups.Post 84 the usual digit system was
modified as was the headstock shape later, although the headstock stayed unmodified much later here in Europe. Your guitar is an 85 ST55 Goldstar in my opinion.Does it have the brass plate under the scratchplate?

Thanks for the input guys.
Indeed it has a brass (or rather copper foil ?) under the pickguard.
