Hello, I'm new to the whole tokai thing, but I've heard to join here before purchasing, so here I am.

I have been wanting a 335 style guitar, but I'm not a huge fan of epiphones all the time, and haven't found one that doesn't feel like a toy to me. I am saying this in the least snooty way possible, but every one that has been in my local music store has felt plastic-y and cheap, and sounded rather terrible in comparison to the gibbo one I've played. I cannot afford a Gibson at the moment, and have a roughly 400 dollar budget (U.S). I have been seeing a lot of tokai's on YouTube, and have heard great things about them, so I figured i'd give them a look.

There is a beautiful blue tokai 335 dot that falls into my price range and it's in Canada. It's not perfect but I love the color, and its got a bigsby (Bonus!). I read somewhere that there are Canadian made tokai fakes that aren't that great, but the guy claims it is a MIJ one he ordered from the factory. I figured it doesn't hurt to ask, so does anyone know anything about this guitar? Thanks!

On a side note, It is not letting me attach pictures, how would one do such a thing? This is much different than the strat forum :-?

The seller says it’s a 2006, and from what I understand, there are no serial numbers around then due to a lawsuit, but I see no markings that would lead me to say it’s genuine. Especially considering the price. However, I really don’t know much about these guitars so please help me out!

Thanks!

Blue? Bigsby? Canada? Under $400?

Sounds like another of the notorious Canadian fakes has come to light. Don't buy it without posting pics and checking here first.

Actually I just looked at what you posted, and it’s the EXACT guitar talked about in that post. So it would be a fake I guess then? Dang, I actually really like the look of the thing.

Thanks!

I sent that guy a message correcting everything he was wrong about, but he only listened to about half of it. I'm sort of glad it's still there, it means nobody has been ripped off.

Long story short, yes it's as fake as fake can be and he's asking way too much for it.

It's on Reverb right now. I reported it as misleading.
This is worse than a Canadian " Fakai " - I own one of those as a well as two MIJ Tokais. The Fakai is really not bad at all and doesn't deserve the bad rep. but it's just cheeky to put the Tokai name on it.
At least they give themselves away on the headstock - but these crapster fakes aren't even trying
