After having been schooled in the Springysound and Goldstar era classic Tokai with a view to buying, I came across a GS100 and like the look of ....the price , compared to the vintage Tokai (haha).

But seriously, are they a decent neck to play and how do they sound? Stratty?

I have always had great luck with Japanese guitars from various years and this looks like a well made guitar , but for me the real issue is how the neck plays and if the pups give a classic strat sound.

I know lots of this will be subjective but I am happy to hear opinions form owners or people who have played them a bit. I must admit my initial interest in the GS100 is because it's almost £200 less than an '83 Springysound, but I don't want to jump at it just because of the price.

I don't recognize the GS100 you mention. Do you mean a ST100 or a AST100 ?? The difference between the vintage springy's and goldstar's is that the radius is vintage correct whereas the newer ones can be had with the more modern fretboard radius or the vintage correct. I have a newer Breezy and Goldstar but i haven't any older models to compare. Mine are great guitars, that much i can tell you.

Well i've never seen those models, they seem to sport good hardware. Sorry i couldn't be more help.

The bridge looks like a very well made piece, maybe not pretty but efficiently sturdy.

On the tokai web site they don't even show the sunburst version that I am looking for sale. Strange that there is nothing on it.

Update - I mailed Tokai to ask for info. They sent the reply below - posting up for others who might be interested in this model
