Hi Members,

I'd love some help identifying my Goldstar Sound!

I was told when I purchased it that it was a completely original 1984 ST50, but the more I read the forum, the more confused I become as it seems to have conflicting attributes.

Here are the details:

- Body is black (poly finish. shiny right?)
- C shape neck
- Rosewood fretboard
- Tokai GOLDSTAR SOUND script logo - Oldies BUT Goldies - THE QUALITY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS OF THE WORLD
- Single t style string tree (not the round style)
- Deluxe stamped tuners
- Lxxxxxx serial number
- 3 ply pickguard (white/black/white) - 11 screws
- FINAL PROSPEC string saddles
- E stamped pickups
- 1 = 2 = BB V stamped in electronics cavity
- 1 = 2 stamped on the neck
- Neck pocket is not stamped
- Tremelo arm
- Original Tokai tweed hard case

She plays so nice! Any help identifying her would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

PS. Are these ST's or TST's? I'm reading both IDs in different places on the forum and am wondering which is technically correct.

Thanks for letting me know Suki. Can you tell me the defining feature(s) that make my guitar an ST60?

E pickups - ST-50's have U stamps. E pickups disappeared around 85/86, and the script logo appeared in '84, hence yours is likely to only be 84/85.

You can do a nitro test if you want to see if it might be an st-80 - just see if you can get some nail varnish remover on a cotton bud in a cavity. If it melts, it's nitro.

I'm pretty sure it's poly, but I might do the test to be sure. Thanks for the tip.

I also can't find a seam anywhere on the body, so I'm thinking it's a 1 piece. Would it be Japanese Sen Ash?

Looks like a vaneer board to me. Very nice looking guitar.
Usually on multi piece (3) bodies the joins are just a bit above the body tummy cut and below the volume control position. Easy to see the join in the cut out in good light as you swivel it to catch reflections.

Hi guys,

For the record, the Script logo appeared in 1983. . . and was used with the Japanese and Australian Markets. Only the European Market got the Block logo and even then not for the whole year - similar to the Reborn Old moniker in 1980.
With a double = in the stamp, i'd put it closer to '85 than '84. The serial number would also help to get a ballpark figure on the date.
As both neck and body stamps match, it is likely a January 1985 build.

All Strat Models in Japan are designated ST. In 1982 as the Springy gave way to the Goldstar, the extra 'T' was added to all export models except USA - who got an "A" prefix. SO your Springy is an ST and your Goldstar is a TST.
