Only thing is if its mahog why do they named it als48 which denotes agathis?
As far as I know, the Canadian distributor (not JSD) had ordered a special version with mahogany bodies and maple tops, but maybe JSD can confirm that, too, and also give an URL for the distributor site.

As noted on my site all our Tokais are custom ordered by our supplier for the Canadain market to the specs shown on site.

By the way, how many parts do the mahogany bodies usually have? Looking e.g. at the faded tobacco sunburst model it seems to be a 2-piece back? What is their average weight?

yeah thanks , im sure it ll prove worth the wait...
the blues junior aint bad for clean tones and compressor pedals. i guess it s good for a first tube amp, cheapest around for sure.

only one flaw - it s a fender hehe

maybe we shud get tokai to sell tube amps

Tokai did once make a small & very neat looking copy of small 1950?s Fender ?tweed? amp (looked like 5-watt 1955 Princeton ?wide-panel??) ? the Tokai was solid state & about 15-30watt I think ? it?s in the catalogues somewhere ? a couple just sold on eBay around $170. Presumably the Blues Junior will give a fairly ?crunchy? tone if pushed? If not then a used 1980's Marshall Silver Jubille 1x12 should do the trick (valve amp, 50w, around ?400) 8) .

Sometimes two, sometimes three. Most of the time the seem is right in the middle, I've noticed on a few that there are two seems off to the sides. The weight usually runs around 9.5 pounds but I have had some run up to 10.5 pounds.

finally!!!

both the ls50 and the CAN mik 2005 love rock arrived today...and no custom tax, august, spain, shortstaffed at customs office...COOL!!!

well first of all i have to say THIS CANADIAN SPEC 2005 MIK LOVE ROCK IS NO CHEAP GUITAR. believe me. it feels, looks, plays, and sounds as good as the '82 ls50. it s too early to make a judgement, but i wanted to make a point. it was mentioned on this thread that maybe these canadian spec tokais werent good but THEY ARE VERY GOOD VALUE, VERY NICE GUITARS. at least the ones from JSD. this aint no cheap guitar, its mahog and very well built, no flaws. i highly recommend it.

as for the ls 50, well its a beauty...im not an expert on les paul types, so i ll post more thoughts and some porn very soon...

thanks for the advice everybody!

have to agree with chu.. I now own an 1984 MIJ LC Love Rock, and a 2004 MIK (Canadian Spec from JSD) Love Rock custom, and to be honest, the MIK feels, sounds and plays every bit as good as the MIJ. I have also owned Gibsons and to be honest, both these compare to my gibson well, if not in some departments better.

My 1984 has the fret line edge binding whereas the MIK does not (this is one of those details that make the guitar feel that bit more special), if the MIK had that I have no doubt it would feel just as good as the MIJ and my gibson (which also had the fret marker edge binding).

Chu.. 2 very very nice looking guitars !!!

Ahh,?now I said I?d take the old LS50 in preference (easy choice imho), what I didn?t say, & don?t think I?ve ever said on this forum (or any other) is that the old one will definitely sound clearly better  .

To me the old LS50 has other advantages as well as sounding pretty good. But the tone should be slightly different if only because the guitar has different pickups. Also, give it time for a really considered comparison?different volume & different situations, maybe through different amps (my guitars sound quite different through different amps). I think the old one may grow on you,?but if not then it was an excellent buy & as I said above should be no problem if you ever decide to sell.

Ian.

actually the older one s grown on me already. Ian last night i played jsd s for an hour - beautiful guitar - but then i picked up the ls50 , and played for 2 hours, only stopped cos it was 2 am

there s something about that neck...it s so fast! and the tone...mine doesnt have the orig neck pup, seller fitted an 80s kramer humbcker, and it rocks

as mgdew said, (thank u m8) both are very very nice guitars
beautiful!
