Hey all !

I don't know if it's been discussed on this forum, but I brought my Burny LP Custom for a refret, and it seems that the fretboard, that I thought was made from rosewood, was actually Wenge, a strong african wood, used by Warwick on some of their basses. Supposedly has a strong low-midrange tone.

Anyone else "thought" they had rosewood ?

Never heard of Wenge and don't know what the characteristics or graining look like.

Perhaps closeups of the fretboard instead of the pose might be more appropriate.

Sorry about the "pose", I'll try soon to take a pic if the fretboard.

My luthier told me when he sanded the fretboard, how irritating the dust was, compared to rosewood dust, which strangely smells nice lol !

Not sure it'll show anything though, you guys might want to check this out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wenge

The fretboard makes me think of this http://www.uniquechaos.com/bass/034.JPG
Hi not surprised as wenge is poisonous by splinters or inhaling.
I wanted a wenge top strat body. But the luthier was not keen to do it. It's a fantastic looking wood

Sorry about the size !!
