Hi Mojo

Beautifully built amp the Unionjack Mojo, only thing is why go to to the trouble and expense of importing this amp from the States when you can get a very similar item right here in the UK
More than one Company over here are offering this type of circuit and with the personal touch you cannot get when scourcing from abroad. Do yourself and your wallet a favour and give Martin at MJW Amps a ring and he will be able to sort you out I'm sure.
If you want BRITISH tone then buy a BRITISH amp. Its time we supported our GREAT BRITISH amp builders in these difficult times

+1 to getting an amp built here, unless you want to do a kit yourself (like I do).

Mojo, I have been hashing this issue out with some guys on various forums. Master Volume is great and all, but all it will give you is preamp distortion at reasonable volumes. I have come to the conclusion that it is worth investing in an attenuator, such as the Weber ones, which are cheap (about $100) and that way I can get both pre- and powertube saturation at managable volumes.

The main reason I sold my Orange Rockerverb 50 was that the Master Volume an Gain controls gave me a very brittle and sharp overdrive, whereas I reckon I can get some fat and chunky tone out of the 18w 1974 circuit, with only a touch of attenuation....

Good call everyone with the 'buy British' message, an valve amp is a weighty thing, and shipping from the USA will be horribly expensive, the exception is Ceriatone who's amps are so cheap to start with that importing starts to make sense.

Check out http://www.englishvalveamps.co.uk Chris Uff's work is fantastic, and his prices pretty good too!

HI FELLAS :D
Thanks for all your posts and recommendations ,I value each and every one of your opinions highly,Cheers guys!!
Just an update really on my amp plight :-? I lost out on a few e-bay auctions looking for a amplifier.
I had a bid on a marshall specialist 1 x15" valve combo Very rare and meant to sound better than a vintage bluesbreaker ,lost it by a tenner,I had a bid on a marshall 2150 combo, a truimph leo little valve combo, a matamp minimat ll.
I was going to give up, till i found this little beauty :D
An EVA 10 watt high-gain head ,It can use 3 different output valves,el 34,6l6,kt66 in one socket, just swap valves ,without rebiasing.
Dual gain controls to overload each pre-amp valve,A tone control bypass switch.
I am very happy ,i am having a head cabinet and 2 x12 cabinet made by
chris urr the designer of the amp/eva.
A big thanks goes to JOHNA for his help and giving me the heads up on EVA amps,Cheers john,The e-bay seller was a nice guy as well,I got it a nice BIN price.

That looks very cool!

So, single ended then? Similar to the Cornell Romany design, which I've auditioned myself, and if your EVA is anything like that it will be very good.

Should be fun to try out the other tubes as well. :)
Which one is in it from the factory?

You also can contact Barry aka Loverocker to made one for you...He has 5 w kits but I guess no problem with a 18 watt one...Excellent customer service,I have recommend him to several spanish guys and they kept happy with him...

YEAH JVSEARCH, Single ended class a ,hammond transformer,This one is an older version of the amp,The seller sent it with 6l6,I am going to pickup a nos mullard el34 to try in it,should prove interesting :D
Do not know what came in it factory fresh.

HOLA LUIS,

I believe you are the Tokai acoustic guitar expert here on the TOKAI FORUM.
I have brought a tokai made HUMMINGBIRD F-150 from 1973,have you any knowledge of these ,HIT OR MISS :-?
YEAH, i have visted loverockers web-site a few times...

Many thanks :D

sweet :D I had my eye on one of those EVAs (the 5 watt one with swappable el84/6v6) around the time i got my valvepower, but then when i got my valvepower thought getting another marshall-style amp maybe wasn't the best idea...

Another vote for Barry/Loverocker at www.ampmaker.com

I built his 18W kit this summer and, not only were the instructions and components great, but the support was spot-on too and Barry patiently helped me find the one tiny wire that I'd missed out and got me on the road pronto.

It's now the only amp I use. It's loud, and sounds divine. Playing with a drummer, bass, keys and vocals in a good sized room and it's never been above 4 on the dial. First gig in a week though, that'll be a good test...

Have fun with your new amp when you get it - valves rule!

Mojo,the EXPERT is Peter really.
I?m very sorry I?ve have no input abour Hummingbirds unfortuntly, just guide yourself because woods choice and feeling...

Mojo, I'm based in the north west and have a ceriatone TMB if you'd like to try it. Not sure it's for sale, mind!

Drop me a PM if interested.

just another plug fr martin at MJW from me. He built me my perfect amp, a Ceriatone Bassman. Looks a beaut & sounds like angels masturbating. He also does his own amps including 18 watt roadster series which play like a dream. You an't go wrong speaking with him

I recently bought one of the MJW Goldstar heads secondhand. It's very impressive and sounds great considering how much I paid for it. Primarily I'm a Cornell amps fans and this is coming up to the Cornell level of quality.
