Anyone here like beer?

Some of my favourite beers from around the world:

Hofbrau ( http://www.hofbraeu-muenchen.de/ ) - good times at the Englischer Garten in Munchen. You can get this from the supermarket here in NZ, thankfully.

Lowenbrau ( http://www.loewenbraeu.de/ ) - Oktoberfest, woohoo!

Ringwood Brewery Forty-Niner ( http://www.ringwoodbrewery.co.uk/ )

Guinness - I go along with the theory that Guinness tastes better in Ireland. I have no idea why, it just does. The brewery tour in Dublin is worth a look as you climb up several stories and then they give you a free Guinness at the top, the beer tastes even better for climbing all the stairs. Preferably go with some women, who won't want their freebie, so you get more.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - I seem to remember this stuff being not too bad when I was in the States, quite an achievment from the country that brought us Budweiser (ugh, horrible). :p

Kingfisher Strong - Awesome beer, tastes almost like one of those strong Belgian beers to me.

I'm yet to find a New Zealand beer that I really like. Currently I'm a big fan of Coopers from South Australia ( http://www.coopers.com.au/ ). It's much better than the similarly priced local brews.

Guiness is good so is Boddington's. Fave is Shiner but I'm not sure you can get it outside of Texas.

Coopers is good and I've had more than my share of VB too.

http://www.staustellbrewery.co.uk/ tried their Tribute ale on holiday this year, fecking fantastic. They` sell it to you on line too.Gabe.

Shiner is excellent... I had a Texas contact that would send me cases up to NJ. I like Saranac seasonals from up in the Adirondacks.

Most people i know refer to VB as "vaginal backwash"..
Mick

That's a lovely term. I'm not a fan of VB anymore, though I drank my share in my early-twenties. Carlton Cold and Carlton Draught were favourites then too. After spending quality time in Europe with some German and Czech beers, it is impossible to go back.

Best beer in the world.

I think a good rule is to try the local brew, wherever you are. In the UK, if you like bitter, try whatever is brewed close to you. Fullers London Pride is a great pint, but I had a couple of dodgy pints in Wales last week - maybe it doesn't travel well?

In Amsterdam I tend to drink Amstel or Heineken. If any lager lovers come to the UK, avoid Fosters, Carling etc. etc. And Budweiser is a joke isn't it?

I'm not keen on Guinness myself, but Guinness fans do reckon the Dublin stuff is better than the UK stuff - water from the Liffey, maybe?

I agree to stratman.Travelling a lot in Germany for business reasons,I often found some small unknown brewerys, often in family hands. There you can find really impressive beer, far away from the unique industrial standard.I already cancelled dates with customers early in the morning when the brew was too good

The best food is in those local German breweries too. I've been the Stuttgart/Boeblingen (sp) 3 or 4 times. Central Texas is settled by Germans so there is really good German food here. Every trip co-workers would take us to these God-aweful restaurants. Finally on the last trip we found the brewhaus in Boeblingen, the Beer was great and the food was fantastic.

Beer in India sucks.

Beer in the small towns in Yorkshire is the best I've ever had.

My (second - after guitars, obviously!) favourite subject!

My current brewery/bitter of choice (just happens to served by my local social club where I see music on a Friday nights):

Can heartily reccomend both the VPA and Edgars...

Glug, glug!!

Best regards,
Darren/Mole Man

beer is like a religion in my country (belgium), so please be carefull .. i've read already some pretty disturbing things in this thread :p

My fave at the moment is Trumer Pils, but it's not a cheap one.
Coopers has started to give me hangover problems even after only 4, so I'm not bothering with them anymore.

Supermarket beer - Bitburger or Orangeboom and 1664 when it is around.

Cheers all! :D

I agree! But there are several kinds of Guinness. I like best the "Guinness Original".

You'll risk your life if you do that in Spain  Some of the local brews are like cow piss.

Try to drink 10. After some point, the hangover can't go further

Travelling to Portugal gives you the chance to try some really good beer.
I tried Sagres and another fantastic brand with the strange name Superbock
SuperBock.jpg

Both are at least the same quality as I know from german beer. Was very impressed, even the price was funny, very cheap for a very good beer.

San Miguel?

We have them even worse than this one

However, while being in England I learnt that some export beers taste different abroad and San Miguel is one of them.

It happens the same with Guinness here. They sell a horrible "Guinness Stout" that it hasn't too much to do with the "Guinness Original".
