Has anyone here got any tips for dealing with this? My fingers/wrist re ever so slightly painful when playing at the moment.

It's not through playing or indeed the way I'm playing, several weeks ago I was playing 5 a side and during my stint in goal saved a shot which seemed to bend the fingers and wrist back more than I would have liked.

I have played guitar on occassion since but not for ay prolonged period and I've tried not to in the last week or so because it's not helping the problem!

At the moment I've tried to ice the area once a day and rest the hand but unfortunately typing doesn't seem to help my cause NB: long posts on internet forums do not help also

Can anyone give me any more advice to speed up the healing process? I won't play anymore I promise

Go and see the doctor and get a referal to a physio, in the mean-while rest is the only thing you can do.

I'd second that - if it's been painful for two or three weeks  you need to get it looked at. This is based on painful experience of not getting my neck/shoulders sorted quickly enough a few years ago and making them worse by gigging.

Dont hold your breath for a referal I have a shoulder injury that has numbed my fingers and gives **** loads of pain
it took a month of visting the doc every week before laying it on even thicker (but it is v painfull) deprestion lack of sleep ruining my marriage throu bad moods before they would refer.
Still waiting for the appointment and a good night sleep 9 weeks later

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to see a doctor on Friday but I know the physio waiting time is a couple of months here.

Luckily I will be out of the office and into the classroom soon (for a month) so that should help not typing.

Is icing the area a good idea? It's not swollen or bruised so I'm not sure if it's doing anything.

Your doctor or physician can guide you around that better than any tokaiguy her at the registry. (that is unless there are doctors or physicians hanging around this forum ?) Maybe you should start a thread called: Doctor Needed !?
I suggest you see a doctor or physician who knows about sports injuries. They are experts in this field, and know how to make you heal faster.

Maybe you can find some usefull information on sportsinjuries here ?
But still- see a doctor ! :)

In the UK we have GPs who you go and see and if you are lucky you get referred to a specialist or more often than not you get the 'come back if the problem persists scenario'.

I realise it's really a medical question but thought there may be some people on here who have experienced similar issues.

Yes you are right, I have experienced similar issues, but since it seems that your condition needs a doctor, it is difficult to give you advice not being a doctor myself. I wouldn?t like to be partly responsible for a worsening in your condition you see.

But my personal view on injuries like the one you describe: They will eventually get better if you believe in that, and do the right thing (which in many cases are to listen to what your heart and your body tries to tell you in these matters). If you think that going to a doctor only leads to another problem, I am sure that on a mental level you are not helping yourself. Try and read some of the stuff in the link I provided and maybe you will see a way through your condition. And go see a doctor ! :)
