HI this is my first entry on this forum.
I am very much a guitar enthusiast, collector of guitars as well guitar books.
I hope to learn more on Tokai.

I came to this forum via a general Google search regarding the guitar brand Vester, of which I have 8 (edited) "vintage" examples and about which I have written a booklet.

Looking forward to a nice time overhere.

BTW Edited: I miscounted 8 i.s.o. 9 Vesters

Vester Matsumoku made?
I think I've seen questions asked about them over on the Matsumoku forums.

From memory...in the late '70's early '80's Vester was MiJ....this later switched to MiK yes?
I had VesterFire(same company) effects pedals in the early '80's.

Cool, nice pics. Are you able to date your guitars?

Mike
Thanks for your compliment on my photo's, much appreciated.
Unfortunately I cannot date my Vesters exactly, although I tried hard to do that. At present I am still working on a updated version of my booklet which will grow into a real thick book.
I am still collecting information on anything Vester's and I have a lot of serial numbers thanks to a daily growing date base of photo's.
As it seems serial numbers were given randomly.
Stage Series:prefix E and 6 digits, Tradition Series: only 5 digits
I have seen Stage Series Vesters with Tradition Series neckplates as well as other items that were mixed.
Some Stage series Vesters come with extreme beautiful flamed maple necks in spite of being the cheapest of the bunch with ply bodies.
My best guess regarding dating Tradition Vesters is between 1988 and 1992. But I will find out more about that in due course.

Don't know.
I never heard of any Vesterguitars made in Japan or as some assume Australia. I know quite a lot of them were sold in Germany.
Only amps and maybe effects were made in Japan the (trade) name of Vestar is often heard in this connection, but I have no proof.
But I must confess I have seen a lot of Vester amps but never any pedal.
Do you have pics???????

I see it this way.
After the Japanese law suit era, the next Far Eastern law suit era came from Korea (Vester), whilst now the Chinese law suit era is going on more or less.
To the best of my knowledge Vesters were made in Korea between end 1980's upto 1994.

Can you give me an exact link before I start searching "somewhere" ?
Thanks a lot.

I have had a Vesta Fire Digital Reverb pedal for around 20 years - is this connected to the same company?

Judging by the looks, lettering and moreover my very first impression.
I am inclined to say that it looks a lot like the Vester amps that were probably made in Japan by Vesta.
But still not sure.
Thanks ever so much for the pic!!!! :D

BTW one of my most surprising finds regarding Vester guitars was this 12 string Rickenbacker clone.
It sold for a hefty ?550+, I was unlucky not to win the auction.

Sadly I no longer have the pedal to which I referred.
The logo was IDENTICAL to the logo on your guitars but Said VesterFire rather than Vester.
I DID did up some info about the company at one stage for a question that was posted in the forums....lemme do some digging and I'll post up some more info for you.

Vester was a music instrument manufacturer specializing in guitars and guitar amplifiers. Formed as a part of the Samuel Music Company based in Effingham, Illinois, Vester is perhaps best known for their good quality Japanese and Korean import electric and acoustic guitars.

The Samuel Music Company, founded in 1946, is the proprietor and owner of a chain of music stores which sold pianos and specialized in school band renting programs. Following the success of several small luthier businesses such as Jackson Guitars and ESP Guitars in the late '80s boom of the rock music industry, the Samuel Music company decided to launch its own brand of guitars, and named the brand Vester.

Rather than manufacture the instruments themselves, Vester used imported instruments, which were made by Saehan Guitar Technology, a subdivision of Zaozhuang Saehan Music Co., Ltd in South Korea (now known as Sunghan Music). The guitars were imported into the United States by Midco Music (now Musicorp), at the time chaired by David Samuel. Design specifications were dictated by Samuel Music in Illinois and revolved around variations on Saehan's preexisting top-of-the-line models.

Eventually, Vester guitars managed to find a good home in the marketplace and covered a broad range of Japanese and Korean made middle-to upper-range acoustic and electric guitars, along with basic solid state amplifier models. Through contacts in the music industry Vester was able to secure endorsements from several popular musicians of the period, including the Country and Western band Alabama.

Following the Vester corporation's initial success in the marketplace was the company's sudden and unexpected demise. In a move similar to the Norlin Corporation's (Gibson) lawsuit of Ibanez, the Fender Corporation began preparing a litigatory action against Samuel Music in 1994, for allegedly basing the Vester brand on a "sound-alike" for "Fender"; even going so far as to cite the typefont used in the logo was identical to Fender's trademarked font. Samuel Music, lacking the funds for a prolonged legal battle, settled the matter out of court and sold out all remaining stock

The Korean company that used to build for Vester now only builds accoustics under the Segovia name.
Some people have had success tracking down former employees of companies that they are researching.
http://www.vestax.com/ :that's the company that manufactured effects for Vester.
http://www.sunghanmusic.com/ :that's the company that built your guitars.
