I'm thinking of unloading a Reborn and getting a Firebird!

I may be crazy  but I feel like getting rid of one of my Reborn/Love Rock guitars and getting a Firebird (Tokai, of course). The Reborn I have in mind is all original and the serial number dates it from 1980. It has a '60' stamped at the last fret. I am in Canada, and I'd like to keep it in Canada, just for shipping and duty/tax reasons. You'll thank me later. Anyway, if there are any Canadians with a Firebird they'd like to swap, or with lots of cash to throw around, email me. To make up for the difference in value, perhaps the 'buyer' can swing the shipping for both guitars. Just a thought. If this is totally out of line, I'd appreciate a heads up, and I'll pull this 'ad' ASAP. Thanks.

You like guitars where the neck plummets towards the ground as soon as you take your hand off it? And where the tuners are in the most vulnerable position possible (on the bottom of an upside down headstock).
Yes? Get a Firebird....... :-?

After a couple of months I sold mine. Ridiculous guitar with no obvious benefits. They're even too long to fit into a standard size case.....

Good luck!

Mike

Well, I hadn't thought of that . It's just the Johnny Winter in me that thought of a Firebird. I'm actually dumping Strats and Teles I have for 'other' guitars like Specials. I have no idea why. Perhaps a mid-life crisis? I'm just craving a change in gear, and since I ain't that lucky that I can afford to have everything....... something has to go. And since the Reborn is the one Tokai Les Paul I have that is all original and in great shape, I picked that as something that can go. Hmm, I may have to re-evaluate this. Explorers and V's are out, so what does that leave :-??

I saw Winter in May (wasn't very impressed, sadly), but he only used the Firebird for one slide number at the end. The rest of the time he used some strange thing without a headstock.

I always said I'd never want a Les Paul type, but I used the money I got from selling the Tokai Firebird to buy an LS48 Korean Love Rock. I don't play it that much, but to me it's a much better guitar than the Firebird.

Mind you, the guy who bought it seemes to love it, so maybe you should just ignore me and try one. :D

I have owned Firebirds & Firebird knock offs; notoriously neck heavy critters, they are.
Do yourself a favor & stick to the real Gibson type, a Lester :)

   That's even more Japanese guitars that I own! I had the Ibanez V, and traded that for a Tokai Jazz Bass that eventually went for a Tokai Silver Star that I still have. I see Greco, Burny, .... wow. I thought I was being a pack rat keeping three LP's  Wow. That's a collection. Maybe I can keep everything. If I walk to work and eat only three times a week, I'm sure I can afford a few more vintage Japanese guitars soon enough.

Only 6 of the ones pictured above are still in my collection

I currently 'own' only about 30 guitars

I have mainly Strats & Lesters, one Tele, and a Terada Epi Casino

Several of my personal Strats, and my Tele are currently in project status
