Does anyone know if Tokai ever made Sunburst Jazz basses with ash bodies? My band colleague is very impressed with my Springy, & also with my new Breezy that's on it's way. He's looking to get a new Jazz in SB. Nearly all SB Jazzes have alder bodies, like the originals did, but Tokai seemed to like using figured ash on 60s copies, so Tokai seems like the best hope.

So, has anyone seen one?

Thanks Magnus, but those low definition scans don't tell me anything useful.

Agreed, but at least the catalogues confirm that Tokai did make ash-bodied Jazz basses, which means there's a point looking for one :)

This lists the JB-85FL and JB-120 as having ash bodies (2 and one piece, respectively). I think this says the JB-85 is the fretless Jaco Pastorius model, so unless your band is a Weather Report cover band he might want to take a pass on that. All the other JBs listed here at least are alder.

The 1982 cat. also clearly lists (in Katakana!) the JB-120 (1964 model) as having a 1 piece sen body. The lower end models are hard enough to find, so good luck finding one of these!
