Is the Blue a special order color or has it been repainted?

Alleged ST-85 SOB

Post by RB6STRINGS » Sun Nov 13, 2016 7:25 pm

This guitar is likely a parts guitar, IMHO. ST-85 should be natural. The GS in the pickup cavity denotes it's original body color was Golden Sunburst. The hang tag may have come from an original ST-85. There are too many questions to ask such a high asking price. An original GS body from another guitar repainted in SOB mated with a neck from an ST-85 with hang tags would make a lot of sense for explaining this one. Still a nice guitar, but I question that it was born like this. But who knows for sure? :D

The body routings are correct for year, but it was originally Golden Sunburst so it's a refinish job.

The neck may or may not have come from an ST-85 (Natural finish). There should be an "85" stamp on the fingerboard at the last fret if this is the case. If it bears an "85" stamp, then the neck does not belong to the body.

Hangtags and stickers can be moved around easily.

I would like to know what pickups are in there.
