What a shame someone who couldn't appreciate it for itself got their hands on it. Isn't the difference between an R and an F simply flame?

no, FLG was the designation until 1980 or 81 (not sure), after that all were RLG..
 
Building is different.

There are several companys building for Fernandes guitars during the years......
 
I'd say it's a 1977 FLG-70 but there's the third pickup being strange. It could have been a special order, since the normal ones never had a middle pup.

Yep I'm quite sure, but: FLG is one thing, "Super Grade" something different. It's like the differences between late '70s Greco and "Super Real" series.
Also, the lower series used to be pancakes, even though the one you bought doesn't seem to be. Have you tried to knock the body and listen to the sound?
