Just arrived on Wednesday along with a real Rickenbacker bass I got for near free! This is one of those cool and more rare transitional period Mint Collections, an EGF59-70 I suspect? Most likely made around August of 81 or there about. No open "O", MC truss cover, long tenon, all original cavity candy etc. This thing is the most MINT Japanese guitar I have ever bought. Other than a TINY bit of buckle worming on the back and one little ding on the lower waist, it literally looks new! No corrosion on the metal, no scratches of ANY kind on the top, no dings on the headstock, no cracked or dirty pickguard & surrounds, nothing!? It had nibs but they are gone via a refret so the previous owner must have just sat when he played. The pups on the other hand, no idea what they are? Any suggestions?! :-?

That particular Greco closed "o" logo looks like post Mint Collection 1990s production to me.

+1,000,000

That thing is clean though! Wow.

From the solder on the bridge pickup pot, they aren't the original p/ups. I think you got a wolf in sheep's clothing. (and, i mean that in a good way..)

They're right about the headstock logo. Pre mint collection logo has G and r touching each other high on the r (not talking about the even earlier Gneco), mint collection has G en r touching each other low on the r, post mint collection G en r don't touch like this one.

MY GOD! ....UDO NICE SCORE,
That thing is clean , looks like it was made yesterday, you luckly SOB  How did i miss that one?
Congrats ,I am happy for you bro!!
I have to agree,Looks like a later greco logo to me,post 1989..

MOJO HOBO

I dunno about G's and r's on the logo, but that is one clean guitar with a beautiful burst job on it. Nice score. :)

If anyone is interested in post Mint Collection Greco Les Pauls, Guitargai has a couple for sale - a cherryburst and a honeyburst. The honey weighs 8.5 lbs. and the cherry 10.5 lbs. I believe both are 1995 production based on their serial numbers. I have purchased from him before. He's good to deal with. He's based in the USA. Guitargai.com

Yeah, Guitargai has them being listed from 1985. but, I've had 3 just like Udonitrons that were from the eartly 90's and had the closed O logo. biggest difference I can tell is from the tuners and pickups. Early 80's have Greco Deluxe stamped on the tuners. 81' usually has Maxon pickups with a date code. 82' I believe is when they started using Greco manufactured pups usually with a sticker on the bottom stating model. mid to late 80's they quit putting stickers on the pups from what I could tell.

late '80s ...... +1

I have seen Greco pickups from 1988 examples with the stickers on the pickup bases but then examples from 1989 they were gone

seems like 1988/1989 is a transisition time frame for stickers to no stickers from the examples I have seen ..........

Thanks for the replies everyone, interesting info to hear! Yeah it is ridiculously mint. I MIGHT sell her, not sure. I wonder if the pups are Screamin equivalents or perhaps Double Tricks? Hmmm

Of interest the 1989 and 1990 catalogue list's the EG70/700 with Dry pickups X 2.
The only costmetic difference in the catalogue seems to be the Greco' headstock logo decal position, it is different between the EG60/600 and EG70/700

The EG70/700 model has the 'Greco' headstock logo positioned higher on the headstock and at a steeper angle and the EG60/600 is lower and almost horizontal in position.

The EG60/600 lists with screamin 82 pups...

regards, Mick
