hollow sound when you knock?

Jepp, one idea that came to my mind first.
Light weight (under 3.8 kilo) could be also a hint.

Gibson on the headstock?

Another possibiity ;)

Some Gibson fanatics say, the chambered ones sound better than the massive ones.
I can't compare it, i have neither one here, but i tend not to believe that.

Knocking on the back and specially top would give you an idea but It?s not the absolute trial.

depends on you definition of chambered. the japanese had a hollow maple top over a solid body (late 70's greco LP), but Gibson have a solid maple top over a hollow mahogany body. if i am incorrect im sure someone will correct this.

the best way to tell is to remove the neck pick up. that will tell the story.
sorry i don't have a good photo of a chambered lp, but here is a good pic of my solid aria pro2's neck cavity:

That was a fantastic read! Very interesting!

i was talking to an older friend who is an old-world wood craftsman from greece the other day. i started talking specifically about some of the things the guy in the artical was saying about the density of the mahagony affecting the tone quality. he said that the lower section of the tree is denser not only because of the sheer weight above it, but most importantly because the lower section has alot more minerals in it. he said this explains why you can have 2 identical lp's and one will weigh 2 to 3 pounds more.
