Hi All, trying to figure out how to ID the better Greco LP guitars.
I know to look for the "mint collection" and "EG 58/59-"
I prefer the better plain tops, so what should I look for?

For example I know this is pretty good (EG-59):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170083095309&rd=1&rd=1

How is that different from this (late 80"s Greco):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200082623620&rd=1&rd=1

Where does this Greco fall in the line up (EG-500, 700, 800):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=280084226677&rd=1&rd=1

it looks nearly identical to this:

Finally, where does this fall in the line up - Greco EG-1000D:

The Greco in your first link is a nice one, probably an EG59-60 Mint Collection model.

The second is likely Korean (no serial #)
I do not believe it is late 80s, more likely 90s era. This is not
Mint Collection in the strict sense.

Third and fourth links are late 70s Grecos.

The last may be a late 80s EG59-100 but who knows. It could be
a 59-70 because those often had a flame veneer top too.
Serial number is impossible to read due to camera flash.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info fiftywatt!

Another question - between the 1'st link and the 3'rd link what are the main differences? Were the EG59 meant to be exact replicas, while the the EG series were general copies?

The one in the 3'rd link has a 2 piece top, 1 or 2 piece back, fret edge binding, and 2 hole truss rod cover, but has "incorrect" tuners for a standard.
Is there a big difference between the pick-ups (assuming stock) between the first and third links?

Thanks again.

Well, with a bit of net research, I've sort of answered my own question -
The neck to body construction gets much better as you move up the line -
EG to EG58/59 & EGF.
I see what all the fuss over the EGF line is all about now, among other things like finish, p-ups, etc... :D

slinger seems to have some aversion to displaying the rear side of head stocks as in the 2nd above example; why is he constantly denying potential buyers the knowledge that can come with this information? = RED flag....................

Yes, if you like hollow bodies or SG or strat or tele, there's some fantastic pre 80 Greco around.
