After exhaustively Googling and scanning message boards, I have not found any real solid information on the internet about Phoenix guitars. I did speak with a guitar shop owner who used to sell them in the 80's and knew the basics about them, here's what he told me:

- They were made in the Tokai factory from 1982-1985
- They replaced the El Degas line
- The man behind it was Larry DiMarzio, so they all came with DiMarzio p/u's
- They made Strats, Tele's, LP's, 335's, bass guitars and surely some other styles
- They may have been made just for the Canadian market, though I'm not 100% sure...
- some seem to be high quality (I have a Phoenix LP that is very high quality) but some others seem to be lesser quality (plywood strat)

If anyone has more information, please let me know!

I can be emailed at "mstrachan at Gmail dot com"

Cheers!

Phoenix Guitars.. (2) Les Paul Models are as follows:
Model's 1050, 1060

Model 1050 and 1060 Mahogany body with maple top

Neck: Fixed mahogany

Pick ups: Dimarzio (2) PAF humbuckers

Tuners:
Model 1050: Sealed case precision 16 to 1 ratio tulip buttons chrome platted
Model 1060: Sealed case precision 16 to 1 ratio tulip buttons gold platted

So the only difference is chrome or gold tuners.

Imported in Canada by B and J Music LTD a division of
Hornberger Music LTD Toronto, Ontario Canada

I hope this helps... Cliff

Thanks a lot!

I guess I have the 1050 with the chrome tuners.

My music teacher sold the guitar to my dad in 1985 right down the street form B&J Music in Mississauga. It all makes sense now.
