The difference is the SS40 is the lower end model with cheap components, woods etc. Higer end models are made with quality pickups, pots, tuners and the body will be made top quality wood.

The top quality Silver Stars are rare.

I've never seen any SS100 Silver Star?
Does this model really exist?

Is this one ss60! How do i recognice it? Is anywhere any mark? For example under the pickguard or in the neckend?

Hi guys,

Telecaster : None of the guitars you asked about are SS-60's.
for starters, SS-60 do NOT have bullet truss rod, 3-bolt neck or black scratchplates. Serial numbers are on the neckplate also.

If that is true peter, then the id chart on the main page of this sight is wrong. In the fender models ID section it says the ss60 has the serial on the headstock- and don`t all the bullet SS have that? the 66 copy is the only one that doesn`t, and is a abberation as the SS is always a 70s strat.

Hi syrinx,
actually the SS series is CBS Fender - whick started in 1965, but began using the larger headstock in 1966. The vast majority of SS models are the 1976 3 bolt style with a 1966 4-bolt style being offered as the SS-60 through to 1983 (7okai) when the SS-60 and SS-80 were both a 4-bolt neck style (Tokai)
The ID chart on the main page was made by me for use on this site just after I first joined and is really meant as a logo guide rather than a model guide. I went more for the most likely encountered logo than just the rare ones as 3 years ago correct info on identifying Tokai guitars was very scarce on the ground.
With the help of some fabulous people, Ned has been able to turn the site into a recognised and factory endorsed site. Not a lot of Internet sites can boast that.

thanks for the info! I have found this site to be the best at getting any info- but was still confused. I have had a silverstar 7okai with the serial202xxxx on the headsock decal. I assume it is a 82 but have never seen a breakdown of how to tell what model- other than "seventies strat". What i need is the next step to figuring out the grade- it is alder bodied. great great guitar- I have several vintage strats and everyone picks this as the nicest one playing wise. Then I point to the headstock.............
