So, I just got a circa '84 TST-'56 with the reshaped headstock and later 7okai logo (not with the T). The headstock looks like one of the ones in the dating photos on the tokai registry site.
I understand that these are supposed to have poly finishes but I would swear this seems like it could be nitro. It is SO thinly applied, if it is poly, that I can see the lines from the wood. It also has that more 'subdued' look (best way I can describe it) that nitro finishes have. I haven't ruled out that it's just really thin poly.
Is this a possibility? Has anyone else seen Tokai fenders from this late with nitro finishes? I need to get some acetone and put a drop inside the control cavity to test it.
I know one thing, this finish is a reallly cool gold color, almost dick dale like that I haven't seen before. I love the sound of the guitar. Thanks to those of you whose advice led me to purchase it.
