Hello Friends,

I'm trying to buy a gift to my friend. I recently found a good variant and seller says that it is SS80. How to identify SS80 to be sure that it is exactly SS80 ?

Below please find some photos. One of them shows something like "SS 80" stamp under neck heel. Is it real SS80 with 1 piece ash body and nitro lacquer? The price is about 300$. I also have a chance to buy 1978 ST-50 for the same money. What will be preferable?

That is a great deal for $300. It is an SS-80. Brass nut, brass saddles, and nitro finish. I'd take it over a ST-50, but at $300 each you should really buy both IMO.

As Wulfman said, brass nut, brass saddles, SS80 is nitro finish.

Last thing to check is if the pickups are DiMarzio FS-1 Fat Strat

Take off black pickup cover and should say DiMarzio on inside. Top is a vintage, bottom with 1 is new:

Dimarzio has black bobbin and light gauge black and white leads:

Body on three tone sunburst are often one piece on these as well...
That one is a '79.

Great guitars.

Incredible, when you think the 1977 3 tone burst Fender Stratocaster I had, had a SEVEN piece body, no kidding! Great pickups in it though.

Hi

Definately an SS-80. Aside from all the other features,(which can be replaced) the one defining the Model is the use of an "A" stamp on the neck. Only '80' series guitars and higher had this feature. There should be a matching ' 10=2 YS A ' in the front pickup cavity also.
