Guys,

When did they change from an allen key adjustment to the crosshead screw?

I have some earlier STs with the allen, but I also have a spaghetti L series one (82 I believe) with the crosshead adjustment.

I'm guessing it must have been around 1980?

Yes in 1980.
Peter Mac knows when exactly.

It is amazing how similar your guitar is to mine, I posted yesterday an inquiry about mine in "Goldstar identification please". The only difference appears to be the Springy/Goldstar decal on the headboard and the body makeup, I think yours is three piece, is it?

It confirms to me that the guitars are identical in construction and electrics, just a change in name!

Incidentally mine has the same hint of buckle rash as yours, the lacquer would appear to be very thin and ripples over time with use.
I own a Goldstar strat, Squier Strats SQ, series A and E, Hank Marvin & Symon Neal, Fender CS 56 NOS Strat, Gretsch DC5122G, Ibanez AS80, MC200DC, ST300, & 2351BS, Aria PE1000 & PE Anniversary, Baldwin706, Yamaha MSG & SG2000
