Whats this?

Post by ibraa » Mon Sep 24, 2007 7:37 am

Hi!

I've just found these pics on the craiglist.com. In the ad it's said this guitar is a "Tokai Love Rock" in well conditon, but i think, it's too cheap..(600 bucks)..
So is it a fake? Or it's only a simple scam?

It's hard to say anything without a frontal pic of the headstock... It could be anything really. Not bad looking guitar at all, but hard to say for sure if it's a real Tokai or not. The quilted top is quite tokaish in my opinion. But don't take my word for it. If you get a frontal pic of the headstock, check the truss-rod cover. If it has three screws, it's most likely korean, if it has only two screws, it's japanese.

By the way, why there's only one zebra pup on the other photo and two in the other?

Very dodgy - someone has painted out the serial number with a stripe of black paint... :o

I think, it's written in the headstock "Les Paul" instead of "Love Rock".

How is that possible?

And i have another queston..

Had anybody heard about a Tokai Slash guitar?
One of my friends owns a Toklai from the 80's, it's colored similarly like the Gibson Slash, and it has a 2nd switch between the volume and the tone knobs..

Is it a custom made, a home made, or it was avaible before in the stores?

As far as I know it's a Tokai Reborn Les Paul from the late 70's or early 80's. Very collectable, rare and usually a lot more expensive. But the seller doesn't seem to know it's value, so it also can be some kind of fake or something... it looks very clean to be almost 30 years old. Try to ask more questions about it, where it's from, about previous owner and so on. Do you know the seller? Can you trust him? It's kind of odd that he doesn't seem to know the price range for the reborns... But if you're willing to risk it, I say you should probably buy it.

I wrote this and then I tried to check craiglist.com. It's a pornsite. WTF?

That Tokai fake is back up on Ebay...

Post by paddydoyle » Thu Sep 27, 2007 10:26 pm

Hey Wolfgang, looks like that fake Tokai is back up on Ebay. At least this time it's not being listed as a Tokai, although the seller doesn't say that it isn't a Tokai, and it's a pretty convincing fake. Check it out: http://cgi.ebay.ca/LOVE-ROCK-CUSTOM-GUI ... dZViewItem

I see why you would have paid $750 for it... pd

I'm just glad I got my money back. I think the next time I go looking for a Tokai, it will be in Japan.
