Does (or has) Tokai make anything for Gretsch-like guitars? I've never seen any, but I'm after a Gretsch, can't afford a hi-end one and I'm wondering if there is an alternative to the Gretsch Electromatic 5120.

Quite a few Gretch are already made in Japanese/Korean factories as it is.
I've never seen a Gretch replica made by Tokai only Rics,Gibbo's and Fenders...but just coz i haven't seen one doesn't mean they never tried to make a run of them.

There are not Gretsch style japanese made Tokais.Tokai just focused in certain models only to achieve a great quality witch is very smart in my opinion. There were Gretsch style Grecos however.

I have a Tokai 6120 knock-off that was MIC. $300 USD new on eBay. It's OK for what it is. I purchased it so that I wouldn't have to gig with my vintage Gretsches.

I've thought about getting rid of the stock, cheezy-looking gold-plated hardware and pups and replacing them with new Gretsch parts.

I'll post a pic if anyone is interested.

Here's my MIC Tokai 6120 - (I am not a good photographer!)

Purchased from Canada. As is the case with the Chinese Tokai models, there is no serial number or inside label. The funky extra hump on the 'open book' headstock is a sure sign it's CHINESE.

Very nice construction - very cheap hardware. Could be a sweet axe with some Gretsch parts upgrades. The gold plated stuff must go! YUK!

I agree...you could "Gretsch" that up nicely and the Gold Hardware DOES look decidecly gay-ish

On LP Custom or SG it looks sweeeeet...on a Gretsch it looks like Brian Setzer guest starring on Queer eye :p
