I have bought two Chinese Tokais (and one Dillion) from VOS guitars in Canada. One is the 335 model, the other a 6120. Joel states on eBay that he got them from his Dillion rep and that they say Tokai on the headstock. He's not trying to rip anyone off or pass them off as Dillions.

I got my 335 for $200 USD and the 6120 for $300. They're fun guitars that I jam or gig with instead of my real Gretsches or Gibsons.

See..the trouble here is that genuine Tokai ES replicas have the model number written clearly on a Red label inside one of the F-holes.
These chinese models that you have are NOT officially made by Tokai(to the best of MY knowledge).
There is a Chinese plant manufacturing for Tokai but they don't cover every model and I'm pretty sure they don't make ES models as I've only ever seen SG/LP and Explorer models to date.

Your right, Ozeshin
Above mentioned guitar is a fake and not a Tokai guitar.

I just found out that Tokai is making it's Cat's Eyes acoustic line in China as well. I e-mailed guitar universe about ordering one. They in turn called Tokai who told them they're all being made in China now. I was very surprised to hear that they're outsourcing the high end stuff now too.

Just bought a red one without the bigsby at Guitar World and just can't put it down.I couldn't care less where it's built because the sound, quality and playability are very pleasing. They still have a blue one and I'm thinking about it.

Hey sunbird,
Nice guitar. I have the same guitar. I agree, I can't put mine down and I could care less where it is built.

Thanks RossW
How do you like the sound of the pickups.I find it goes from a nice blues sound to a wild rockabilly with a flick of the switch. The solders seem alright on mine so far.
sunbird
have you thought of changing the tuners to deluxe tulips???????

Hey bird,
Yes, I do like the pu's. I was going to look into new pu's, but I think I will wait, the stock ones are working fine. I did have some cold solder problems, but the dealer took care of that for me. Do you have the Grover tuners? I like them.

Do mean to tell me that my Chinese Tokai 335 is actually a fake of a fake? What kind of low-life ice hole would fake a fake? Get a rope.
