Hi,

I'd like to buy a Japanese Tokai guitar and wonder which dealers I should check? Which one would you recommend?

So far these seem to be good candidates:
- Ishibashi
- Appollon Music

(Guitar Universe gets good reviews here, but they don't reply to my eMails at all.)

Any opinions? Any other ideas?

Peter

I've had really good service with Ishibashi. If you keep buggin Guitar Universe they will reply, they have a very good tokai selection cause they are close to the factory.

...I've bought plenty of stuff from Norinko at Ishibishi. Never had a problem. The other two I 've never dealt with.

Koichi at Ishibashi sold me my es-120. I'll definitely be going back to him one day.

Does Ishibashi offer any discount from the face price ?? Long time ago I learned from my friend in the US that Ishibashi quoted full retail price.

I've also dealt with both Noriko & Koichi at Ishibashi, & look forward to doing so again. 8) (Wasn't aware they were Tokai Dealers, actually).

Koichi (who speaks the better English of the two as far as I could tell) gave me a good discount on their already cheap prices, and even more discount when I ordered multiple items.

Very good, fast, friendly service, plus fast & (relatively) cheap shipping, trackable & insured (Japan Post EMS).

Guitar Universe is here: -

- and their Tokai's are here (please be warned that looking at this page will very likely have a serious effect on your finances...) : -

Ishibashi gave me 20% off the retail price, which is pretty common in Japanese stores I've heard.

Yep, 20% is pretty much the standard discount from what I've seen and experienced with Japanese guitar dealers. Koichi at Ishibashi has helped with many prospective enquiries of mine and Noriko has assisted me with two purchases; both were extremely polite and helpful.

Koichi at ishibashi has got to be on of the best people to deal with... great experience with things bought from them, I live in europe and guitars arive within a week, everything great... And ishibashi should be proud of Koichi, he is very patient with customers, even if they're just checking out, with no intention to buy.
