There is a Tokai FV for sale in which I'm interested with a picture that shows a six digit serial on the headstock.
As far as I can find only 7 digit serials are correct.

Am I right or do V's with a six digit serial exist?

7 is correct for pre 86 but after that who knows. Any pictures?
There are some Fakais with 6 digits but check yours with a torchlight at various angles as this sometimes reveals a feint extra digit.

Tuners have been replaced as well looking at the screwholes

So it is a genuine Tokai?
Thanks!

Any indication what price range would be reasonable?

No evidence it is or isn't genuine. Given the un-licensed versions that came out of Korea and now China. Chinese version usually has two letters before the 6<8 digit ser#.

I've seen people on other forums indicating that some Tokai distributors are commissioning their own models direct from China and are nothing to do with Tokai Gakki. Some talk also that Tokai sell a license to a factory and have no further dealings with the factory as long as the terms of the contract aren't broken. It's a murky world in the lower model ranges these days.
