TE80 or TE120

Hi There Guys,

I recently purchased this Custom Tokai BreezySound style guitar with Abalone binding on the front and back. It appears to be a one piece body, and I'm trying to get clear on what it is. It's currently in storage (waiting for EMS to resume), and I don't have the actual serial numbers.

Also, it has a sticker with 80 written on it on the back of the neck, is this some indication of model?

Dear Hamamatsu San,

Thank for the explanation and the link, it's great to be able to ID it properly. So from what I can see, its a 1986 TE80.

yep TE80

but earlier ones would have been 120s...

I thought 120s had a b-bender but maybe that is a separate animal.

TE120 is all solid ash
TE80 is veneered, top and back

That looks like a one piece ash body with pearloid purfling /binding.

I have a 1981 TE120 (Breezy, not custom) with a body like that but a sunburst.

Wondering if the neck was switched? Looks like a higher end model than an 80.

Have you pulled it apart and looked at the codes stamped in there?

Basically. Tokai had been making acoustics in partnership with Martin since the mid 70s. And even made guitars for Fender starting in the early 90s.
