Tokai Goldstar Sound, post 2000? MIJ

Post by Didrik » Wed Nov 27, 2019 1:09 am

Hello All

I have been following this forum for a while, interesting to see how much knowledge there is on the Tokai topic :-)

I bought a Goldstar Sound around 2007 in Norway, and never really thought so much about the date and year, it was, and is, a great guitar to play.
However, recently I started to be interested in finding out what kind of guitar it really is.

There is no markings on the outside of the guitar, apart from the name etc on the head-stock and "made in Japan". No date or number on the neck plate. Inside, in the pick-up cavity, there is handwritten GS (burned into the wood), and a number, I think it says 7-34. I could not find any info regarding this.

Can you help me out?
Pictures can be found here: http://s300.photobucket.com/user/didrikbe/library/Tokai

I have not detached the neck, somehow, that feels wrong, and I have never separated the neck from any guitar.

Best regards
Didrik

well, all I can say is that GS is the colour code golden sunburst and the 7-34 is July batch number 34. looking fairly recent too, all clean and no discolouration from age, probably AST70 2010 onwards

Hi

Thank you for the answer.
It cannot be younger than 2007, that is when I bought it :-)

Is it strange that there are no serial numbers anywhere?
Should I remove the neck?

Best regards

Hi

Found this picture on Statman photobucket

It looks like a 2003 AST-50 may be the correct type.
That is my best guess so far :-)

missed the 2007 ref
neck removed will show the same 7-34 so that it remains paired up with the body after the paint section. some years had no ser #'s but there are also fakes out there but yours doesn't seem like one to me.

could be one of these then AST50 https://www.vintagejapanguitars.com.br/ ... catalogue/
