1980 Tokai Love Rock LS80 with Original Reborn Case

Oh, I don't get this one from Japan. I got it from outside Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Somebody got it from Japan, clearly. But I don't know who or when.

1980 Tokai Love Rock LS80 with Original Reborn Case

There's a ton more picks on the Vintage forum. It weighs what a solid Les Paul should weigh -- not to be glib. I don't have a scale. But it weighs more than the new chambered Standard and less than the heavy 1970s Norlin era Gibson monsters. Neck is between 60s and 50s. I'd call it full but...

1980 Tokai Love Rock LS80 with Original Reborn Case

I would love to sell this to the right collector, but am not sure if there are any in the United States. Am happy to sell to Europe, except I think shipping is just too absurdly difficult from here. Apparently it is easier to ship a guitar from Japan then the U.S.? Anyhow. Here it is. Offers...

    Tokai LS80 - Love Rock - 1980 - Honeybrown burst

I am offering it up mainly for the money. Plus I'm compulsive and like to get new stuff and I have my eye on something.

1980 LS80 Pickups Keep or Replace?

I now have SD Antiquities in my LS80. Very very nice. Clear. Not too trebly. Not too woofy. Very glassy and smooth cleans. Perhaps -- perfect.

    NGD LS-200 OS 1980

Holy ****. That guitar is stunning. It's weird about pickups and how they work with each individual Les Paul. At different times I've sworn that Fralins, Dimarzio 36th Anniversary, Antiquity, Bareknuckles and '57 Classics were each my favorite pickups. It has depended on the Paul they were...

    Tokai LS80 - Love Rock - 1980 - Honeybrown burst

Gorgeous. I spent a week in Bath last June and a week in London. I wish I knew there were so many sweet Tokais around.

So I added these Duncan Antiquities -- they sound fantastic. [/img]

    Belated NGD: 1981 LS-200 BS

Thanks for the intel. I suppose the strange pricing is no different than Gibson CS which charges twice the price of an R8 for an R9.

    Belated NGD: 1981 LS-200 BS

Incredible. Question: Why do folks think this quitar would have cost 200,000 Yen in the first place? As far as I know, the only real difference between the LS200 and the LS80 was the grade of the top, the pickups, (and 120,000 YEN).

Well I'll be damned. A Mancusian doppleganger!

1980 LS80 Pickups Keep or Replace?

My tech put a set of Duncan '59s in there with nickel covers -- kept the original wiring otherwise. Sounds great. Much better than the original pickups.

    Tokai LS80 - Love Rock - 1980 - Honeybrown burst

We don't know if this is the case the guitar left the factory in. We don't know how the case and the guitar got to Carrboro, North Carolina. It is possible the guitar and the case were purchased separately and later mated. Either before or after leaving Japan. These guitars (and cases) are very...

1980 LS80 Pickups Keep or Replace?

Interesting. What about the switches, pots, circuit board, etc.... You guys saying give it the whole proper electrical transplant?

1980 LS80 Pickups Keep or Replace?

I have always liked 57 Classics by Gibson. But the S marked PAFs by 'Goto' arent bad. Should I keep this guitar all original to preserve collector value? I know its a subjective question. But I ask y'all...what would you do?

    Tokai LS80 - Love Rock - 1980 - Honeybrown burst

Nobody asked what it cost me. I suppose its worth letting folks know for the sake of market value that I traded a very nice Gibson Les Paul Traditional plus top for it. Even swap. Those go for anywhere between $1300-1700 on the used market in Nort Carolina. I think the Tokai is more 'valuable'...
