Help identifying two beautiful Goldstar Sounds

The white one looks like it has been rewired as that is not a stock Tokai selector switch - which should be like the sunburst one. Mine is an 86-87 Goldie that has the same switch as the SB.

    FINAL Pro.Spec saddles circa 1986

Hi All, Any body out there in the UK have some spare, good condition saddles going for a 1986 Goldie? Mine have gotten worn with string grooves over 31 years and this effects the sustain as it is a little choked especially on the three unwound. I've tried gentle filing to see if i can improve...

    Goldstar Body Restoration

Beautiful job! The fact it's still shows it's age gently is a bonus.

    new (old) guitar day

I suppose any scouring pad will do. I also drenched it in WD40 (or similar!) whilst I was cleaning it. BTW I was in Japan with family - Kyoto and Tokyo end 2013/14 - visiting friends for a couple of weeks and loved it. Of course had to peruse the guitar districts and came back with a 2008...

    new (old) guitar day

Very nice! Mine is the rosewood board version ST50 from around 1986. Used to have the grey bobbin pickups too but now all SD's. The brass control grounding plate would put it as an older version of the latter script (non spaghetti) models. My bridge went bad like that (actually worse lol) but...

PLS HELP! First Tokai - need help identifying!

Very good deal - almost too good. If the switch has been replaced in the past then it belonged to somebody who knew the difference. I hate to say it but I'd be concerned that if CC had it and bought it really cheap, somebody was trying to shift it quickly. It could thus be stolen property. I'm...

Tokai Love Rock 1980 LS 60 or 2014 LS 160?

I've a 1985 LS 60/80 (odd year, high end wood specs but no feb and poly) and it's an amazing guitar. I however bought a LS160s GT a year ago and the older Tokai has stayed in it's case. Tokai have nailed it with these modern premium models.

    1979 Breezysound

That's pretty good evidence there to Tokai provenance.

    1979 Breezysound

It is entirely possible the neck has been refinished and a new logo put back - albeit in the wrong place? Something about the way the skunk stripe is shaped reminds me of my early 90's Fernandez: Putting the logo in the wrong place is also easy for a manufacturer to do - check out my 1983...

    help on purchase decision, please

I agree the Suki, especially as the SilverStar is much better build quality than the Fenders they replicate! I guess the undervaluing mirrors the same desirability between small headstock Fenders and their large headstock seventies counterparts. When I was in Tokyo last year I had the...

    help on purchase decision, please

Unless they have been changed, you can identify the lower model st40 by the single cast bridge and the tuners with chrome covers. The St 50 and above, have Kluson type with Deluxe or Tokai on them and bridges with a tone block and plate. The rest is determined by pickups, number of pieces of...

    help on purchase decision, please

Do you have photos, links, model numbers etc for both? Depending on model number the Goldstars from mid 80's are excellent guitars and quite vintage accurate for the 50's 60's era. St 50 and up. The Goldstars are not valued quite as highly as the early eighties Springy , but in reality that is...

    1979 Breezysound

Switch looks correct for Tokai. The neck plate with the plastic backing looks very late 80's Japanese Squier to me - not to say the plate is unoriginal, but the plastic back is not really a Tokai thing in my experience.

    Tokai weight: LS98 vs LS260

My 2008 LS160s GT is 9.1 pounds. My 1985 LS is 8.9. Whilst not much of a difference on paper it is quite noticeable when worn over an entire gig. Another excuse to post a pic just to promote how good these guitars are!

Please help me identify my Goldstar Sound

Looks like a vaneer board to me. Very nice looking guitar. Usually on multi piece (3) bodies the joins are just a bit above the body tummy cut and below the volume control position. Easy to see the join in the cut out in good light as you swivel it to catch reflections.

NGD Flame Orange ST 55 Goldstar

Shim is most likely by former owner. I put my own in after I bought mine new in 1987.
