This news hits hard. It took me a long time to really appreciate Beck's skill. :( What he could do with his deftness of touch, and coaxing so many tones with just his phrasing and dynamics. Amazing, and so magical that I never tried to learn his tracks.

This is my last F-style Tokai, a 'BLOCK' logo Goldstar - one of the first from 1983 with the correct headstock shape. I've had about 8 Tokais through the years, but I've slowly cut them down to this one and my LS-320. The neck is the only part left! See below.

Earliest I ever saw was on Yahoo Japan sometime in the early 2000s, when I was a nerd for Tokai research. :) That one was 8000349 and my notes show it was an LS80 with double-ring Kluson clones and a 'bell' style truss rod cover. If I saved photos back then, I have no idea where they are now...

Aha. I had wondered about HLS guitars when I spotted them in Tokyo on a trip there a few years ago. Took a few shakey phone camera photos in the shop before being chased out (inevitably) by Mr No-Photo! The HLS-420 was the highest price one I saw. It was labelled as "Tokai Order Model Series"...
