Massive 8.9 earthquake and tsunami in Japan

Yeah I am Korean. Was brought up in Canada and spent the last 8 years here in Tokyo. Had a good job here and was kinda settling down, but I decided to move back to N America for several reasons. I still think Tokyo is not in any immediate danger of harmful radiation, but there are other bigger...

Massive 8.9 earthquake and tsunami in Japan

I agree. When I said "western media", I was referring to mass media outside of Japan. For some reason, Europeans seem to exaggerate the situation more than anyone else. On the other hand, the Japanese government and TEPCO are being extremely conservative with cautions and release of...

Massive 8.9 earthquake and tsunami in Japan

There is no doubt that those working at the power plant are selfless heroes. But there have only been two people were irradiated beyond the legal limit. Western media is making a huge drama out of this.

Massive 8.9 earthquake and tsunami in Japan

While you are here, I suggest doing some guitar shopping. I see lots of Gibson Historics being offered at ridiculously low prices. They apparently have cosmetic flaws, which makes me guess that they were dinged/scratched when the earthquake hit Tokyo. I am sure there are Tokais similarly...

Pickups: Antiquity VS. Seth Lover VS Alnico II pro

Spent the day after the earthquake soldering Alnico II Slash into my guitar. Gotta say I am very satisfied with the sound. I found the distorted sound of MKII too muddy and boomy. I liked the clean sound of it though. I think it did the PAF-like sound quite well. SD Slash is not so...

Massive 8.9 earthquake and tsunami in Japan

First member from Japan checking in. First thing first for Tokai fans: as far as I know, the city of Hamamatsu where the Tokai factory is located is not seriously affected by the earthquake this time. Northern Japan, on the other hand, has taken a real hard hit. Even here in Tokyo, the...

Pickups: Antiquity VS. Seth Lover VS Alnico II pro

Been looking around for replacement pickups for my LS. I was thinking of buying a pair of Alnico II pros, but after watching youtube clips of 59 bursts, I became obsessed with that hollow, woody sound. From what I have heard through internet video postings, it seems to me like the Antiquity...

Random shop in Tokyo, and so many Tokais

It is a shop that I randomly walked into without paying much attention to its name. I believe it may be a branch of one of those big franchise shops like Ikebe or Kurosawa. This many Tokais in a single shop is not so rare in the Ochanomizu area in Tokyo (which was precisely the point I wanted...

Random shop in Tokyo, and so many Tokais

Hmm, I thought that veneer tops usually don't show wood grain like a solid flame maple tops do, because the top layer is too thin to show any discernible wood grain, and obscures the grain of the cap underneath. This one showed both very clearly. Maybe I am wrong.

Random shop in Tokyo, and so many Tokais

I bet you guys don't see a sight like this too often so I took a photo of it. Just a random shop in the Ochanomizu area in Tokyo. Randomly walked in and there were about 20 Tokai love rocks. The LS98 in the front had a beautiful flametop. As far as I can tell, it was AAA maple, not a...

Tough one to identify: SH1 59 or Alnico II pro?

Looking for pickups to replace MKIIs on my guitar and came across this on yahoo. There is very little information regarding this pickup, other than that it is from the 80s, and has a resistance value of slightly greater than 8kΩ. The seller says it might be SH1 59 or Alnico II pro. Are...

    Going to Okinawa

According to Tokai Gakki website, there are two authorized Tokai dealers in Okinawa . One is Fukuhara Music: http://fukuharamusic.ti-da.net/ The other is Takara records: http://www.takara-r.com/takarahp/text/takara-top.html Both appear to be very small shops and it is highly doubtful whether...

    Tokai vs Yamaha

Comparing different pickups is like comparing apples and oranges (at least to me). MKIIs might be the best apples out there, but I might not be in the mood for an apple. If you are hung up on apples only, well that's your loss  I want those tronbuckers from Acy's :P

Is this a good deal? Tokai TA-35 for around 150$

A couple of images of my newly required amp While the clean sound is pretty good, the distorted sound is not too great. Any suggestions for a distortion/overdrive to complement this amp? Thanks!!

Is this a good deal? Tokai TA-35 for around 150$

Just got the amp today. Paid a bit less than the initial price. For the size, it is one loud mofo. Very nice clean sound too. 8)

Please tell me about the Tokai PAF-Vintage MK2 LS150 pups

Hey, wrxplayer, How are the Slash pickups? I was planning on changing pickups to either SD alnico II pro or the Slash signatures, but I am kinda starting to like MKII. Still want to change them though.

Is this a good deal? Tokai TA-35 for around 150$

My bad, according to today's rate its 167.50USD. I live in Japan so the shipping cost is about 10$. It is supposed to weigh 7.5kg, BTW.
