    Seeking Advice on MIJ SG's

+1 on the Burny Pickups. I have nearly the exact late 80's Black '62 style Burny that Marc... has if memory serves me correct. I like the frets and neck shape better than the gibson 62 reissues. My pickups are much more vintage spec'd than the current 490N/498T style. headstock shape and...

MIJ Mid 80's Fender Tele Custom info?

Just wondering what some of the specs are on these? maybe 1985-86. There would be no serial # except on the bridge plate "A-######", right? pickguard is 3 ply white not mint green like the newer ones 3 piece basswood body? thin poly finish? vintage tuners, vintage style pickups, tinted...

    1982 Greco EG-59-70

Anyone know what the specs are on this model? plain top? veneer/solid? poly/nirto finish? Thanks

    Questions on a Burny SG

I bought this guitar. It's 6.6 pounds of happiness! I guess it is a late eighties RSG-75-63 from what I've read on hear. The pickups (VH-1?) are maybe the best of any of my humbucker guitars (i have tim shaws, 57 classics, and burstbucker pro's). They measure 7.86 and 7.89 on my meter...

    Questions on a Burny SG

Anyway to know for sure what year and what kind of pickups are in the guitar that's for sale? Sounds to me like the VH-1 pups are very highly regarded on this forum.

    Greco SS series?

No someone else got it. Thanks for the info though. I'm really a novice when it comes to Greco's. Do the early to mid 80's Greco SG's have the more accurate crown inlay?

    Greco SS series?

Thanks So maybe nitro maybe not, but a good thin finish regardless. How is the "Mint Collection" regarded? Midline model?

    Greco SS series?

Any idea exactly what this is? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120506624196&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I think the pickup cavity shows that it is MIJ? Can't see the serial number though. Are there any Greco SG's with nitro finishes? Thanks

    Rant, Gibson R9 neck!

I don't know. Looking at Tokai specs helped me realize something that Tokai and other Japanese companies do well and something that I felt others on this forum would appreciate. Unfortunately, I've never been able to actually verify the great Tokai necks in person...

Best MIJ LP for under $1000 USD?

Thanks for correcting my assumptions about the Burny's. I assume anything numbered 85 and above from the current line is MIJ for all models (ES, P-90's etc)? I assume they sell for about $800-$900 new? The 105 model that was linked in the other post is not listed on the Fernandez website...

Best MIJ LP for under $1000 USD?

Where do Burny's cross over from MIC to MIJ? Are the "55" models MIJ? Are they all long neck tenon? I presume they don't make a nitro finished guitar?

Best MIJ LP for under $1000 USD?

Definitely a whole new world of info to get up to speck on Greco's and Burny's. I wouldn't be against a guitar from the 90's. My biggest concern is fret life. I don't want to spend $800-$1000 on an instrument that needs new frets for $300.

    Rant, Gibson R9 neck!

Sorry if this is in the wrong Forum. Seem's like most people agree that the 59 style neck is by far the most popular. Every MIJ manufacture seems to get this. Nearly every model i've ever seen comes with that size. So how come the only Gibson's that come with 59 style necks are the $5,000...

Best MIJ LP for under $1000 USD?

Looks like Edwards LTS 98 or JP LTS 112 is my best option for the price and features I want. Maybe a stray LTS 130 could fit my price range at the right time on ebay. You've sold me on poly Tokai's though. The photos or real ones do look great that i've seen. If the right LS-90 comes along I...

Best MIJ LP for under $1000 USD?

Thanks for all the great replies and great information. The myths behind nitro finishes may just be snake oil for all I know, but I do know that visually I can see a difference. I had made peace with poly for a while, but recently I was playing a friend's 2004 Fender HWY 1 strat. I wasn't a...

Best MIJ LP for under $1000 USD?

I agree that the 59 neck is much preferred. I've made peace with the thicker R8 necks since R8's are much less expensive than R9's. Edwards are still fine in my book though I like the Tokai headstocks a little more. Orvilles and Epi Japan may still be favorite though. It seems like there are...

Best MIJ LP for under $1000 USD?

I guess i should specify that i would prefer the longer tenon and most of the models i've been looking at do have a long or at least med neck tenon. i assume that if it has a nitro finish that odds are pretty good that it will also have the long neck tenon. i should also mention that i'd want...

Best MIJ LP for under $1000 USD?

I've spent hours trying decide what would be the best MIJ choice for my money. Currently leaning towards Edwards 98 and 112 series. Also liked Epiphone Laquer series from the last few years but they seem extremely rare here in the US. Is there a Tokai model with a nitro finish that is under...

which Tokai is compared to the Gibson Les Paul Standard??

I'm going to give a slightly different opinion on the Gib vs Tok battle. I think your location plays a big role in the argument based on costs. here in the U.S. Gib R8's are selling for $1900-$2500 used on ebay all the time. Regular production standards are $1600-$2000 used. Compare that to...
