I got an als48 a few months back and am happy with it. Today I saw a PR50 in the shop and it looks great, in fact I originaly intended to get a PRS SE prior to the Tokai, now I am unsure wither to go ahead a buy the PR50 to add to my collection. The woods are better than my 48, the PAF Mk4's are...

    Trip to the Pawn shop

It really is amazing what you find in a pawn shop, went in yesterday after seeing an Epiphone Custom in the window. On closer inspection it turned out to be made at the Samick factory in December 2000. It was a right mess to say the least, strings were filthy and they had surface rust as well. A...

    Pickup Height

Been looking and can't find any info for my Tokai als48. What gap is recommended between the pickup and strings on these models??? Right now the bridge pickup seems a little too high almost touching the strings. Anyone got any info on how to balance these and gap size?? Thanks in advance.

    Comment welcome

lol, well yours does sound much more professional; to be honest it looks more plum than cherry. Anyway I am having a ball with it, though the gauge of the factory strings are a little on the uncomfortable side for me, I bought Gibson Bright wire ultra lights, 9?s I think, will see if that makes...

Another difference in mine is that the ?made in China? on the back of the headstock is a sticker, not printed under the poly as the 6 digit serial is. And I think VDC means ?very dark cherry? lol

Was speaking to Tokai UK this morning, seems the ALS48 is indeed Alder, with a canadian Maple neck. Was also messin around in Photoshop today, for those interested in a small t-shirt logo or for a baseball cap this may be of interest. If anyone wants the PSD or a reverse image let me know.
